Biobanking criticised by environmentalists and developers alike

The NSW Government’s “Biobanking” scheme is designed to offset the environmental damage caused by urban expansion and increase biodiversity without hampering the development industry. But criticism of the Biodiversity Banking Bill is coming from both sides of the fence. Developers and conservationists alike say the proposed law is underdeveloped and not the solution needed. Ashlee Betteridge has this report.

Broadcast on 2SERFM Sydney 107.3 and The Wire, national community radio current affairs program. August 15, 2006.

Betty loves blogging

Betty loves blogging is Ashlee’s online baby.  With a readership of Ashlee, Ashlee’s mum and a few randoms who stumble upon it via Google (interestingly, the two most searched terms that lead people to the blog are “anna coren logie dress” and “ready steady cook”), her dreams of becoming a “celeb-u-blogger” have not yet come true.

The blog is a mix of pop culture mockery, day to day whinging, feminist rants and photographs of little consequence, as well as tons and tons of little stories and photographs of day-to-day life as an expat in Indonesia.

The blog often contains some swearing and is very rarely proofread.  Apologies for any typos, bad puns, mangling of the Indonesian or English languages or attacks on B-grade Australian television personalities that you may have secret crushes on.

Preserving heritage with pen and pencil

While many heritage buildings around Australia have sadly become victims of the wrecking balls of progress, the memory of these places lives on in the piles of sketch books scattered around Terry Robinson’s home studio. Photography portfolio — 2007 & 2008

For a slideshow of some of my best photographs from my time at the Village Voice newspapers, click here (opens in a new window).  The photographs were mostly taken for food reviews, portraits of interview subjects and at public events.

During my work at the Village Voice newspaper, we were required to take our own photographs to accompany all our stories.

My photographs have also appeared in UK Motoring and Leisure Magazine and on Shmap.com.
